The process of buying a home can be a very exciting. In order to make good use of your time and ensure that you are happy with your eventual purchase, it’s best to do some upfront planning first. You should consider:

  • Which areas would you prefer to live in?
  • Will you be satisfied with homes in that area that are in your price range?
  • How close would you like to live to your employment, recreational activities, shopping, schools, etc.?
  • How many bedrooms and bathrooms will you need?

As with anything, when considering homes for purchase there will always be trade-offs. Given that, it is best to make two lists. The first list should contain items that are “must have”. The second list can contain some additional things that you would  like to have but are not essential. For example, the number of bedrooms may be on the first list, but a finished lower level or three car garage may better be suited for the second list.

Also, this is a good time to investigate the neighborhood’s crime statistics, schools, and any other information that may be important your decision. The Internet can be a great resource of information, just make certain that you are obtaining it from a reliable source.
